Eco-Friendly Deodorant Brand Doing Its Bit For The Climate-Friendly Community | Wild
Summer 2020 | Community
Wild is the world’s first 100% compostable and biodegradable refill deodorant brand that is already making waves in the cosmetics industry. Here, co-founder Freddy Ward details some of the things they are doing as a company to embed themselves as a part of the climate friendly community.
Sustainable packaging
We pride ourselves in the fact our refill deodorant is the first of its kind to be 100% compostable and biodegradable. Our reusable deodorant applicator case is made from durable aluminium and post-consumer recycled plastic, so it is built to last and stand the test of time.
Our refills and the natural deodorant itself are completely compostable, which is what makes it the world’s first zero plastic deodorant refill. They are made from bamboo pulp, which is 100% biodegradable, recyclable and compostable. It will either take around 3-4 months to break down in your food/home compost, or it can simply be recycled alongside paper and card. Even the packaging that the products are posted in is all made from paper or card, so can be easily recycled.
Offsetting our carbon footprint
We have partnered with the charity OnAMission in a bid to offset our carbon footprint, whilst doing our bit for the environment. Through them, we are planting trees worldwide, helping with reforestation, and creating biodiverse sanctuaries in areas that have previously been destroyed by human interaction. For every deodorant we sell, we contribute a percentage of sales to support the incredible reforestation projects.
We are environmentally friendly and don’t test on animals
The Wild products have never been tested on animals, making them 100% cruelty-free. They are also completely vegan-friendly and gluten-free. The tapioca starch is our gluten-free alternative that absorbs moisture to keep you dry. Our goal is to utilise natural products that actually work, so that Wild stays kind to your body and the environment around us, while offering maximum sweat security.
Our ingredients are free from nasties that are harmful to you
The Wild products are made with high-quality, fully-natural ingredients, to offer the highest level of protection against body odours, and the fragrances are made using solely essential oils; as such they are free from artificial scents, parabens, aluminium and sulphates. Five of our fragrances are formulated from the same base ingredients and scented using a combination of essential oils.
The aluminium used to make our cases is completely different to the aluminium found in other deodorant ingredients that are known to be harmful; the deodorant does not include aluminium as an ingredient - only in the refillable casing, which itself is an alloy and on the whole a more environmentally friendly container than plastic. The aluminium used in packaging (like drink cans for example) is very different to putting it on your body as part of a product.
The anodised aluminium used to make the Wild casing has a higher recycling rate and more recycled content compared to the likes of plastic and other competing packaging types, allowing it to be recycled over and over again, whereas plastic can only be recycled so many times.
About Wild
Wild was founded in 2019 by childhood friends, Freddy Ward and Charlie Bowes-Lyon who are an experienced team based in London but originally born and bred in Scotland. Their range of refillable deodorants are the first of their kind to be 100% compostable and biodegradable.
Their collection includes a range of five new scents that are all free from harsh chemicals such as parabens and aluminium salts that a typical antiperspirant might include. Their refillable deodorant range is just the start of many natural alternative products to come.
